Documentation on the remnants of Jewish material cultuyre has been gathered at ZIH since 1991. The records include pictures, descriptions, designs, and maps of Jewish historical sites: towns, quarters, synagogues and cemeteries, as well as memorials erected to the memory of Jewish communities.
Splendid collection of historical photographs amounts to several thousand pictures. Sound recordings and contemporary films, mostly documentaries, make for a major part of the documentation.
The Center has been cooperating closely with municipalities, Jewish communities and state conservation officers in the effort to save and renovate as many Jewish historical monuments as possible.
The holdings of the Center have been used to mount numerous exhibitions, in films, publications and research projects.
