ŻIH's Library holds the largest collection of historical and contemporary Jewish-related publications in Poland.

It is the only library in Poland to catalog Yiddish and Hebrew publications in the original characters without any transcription into Latin letters.

Library materials are non-circulating and available in the reading room only. Photo-copying facilities are available.

Reading room opening hours:

Monday - Wendesday: 8 am - 4 pm
Thursday: 8 am - 6 pm
Friday: 9 am - 2 pm


Survey of current Polish press on Jewish-related pieces is available on CD-ROMs;

Press articles on major figures in Jewish culture and politics are gathered or registered in Kartoteka osobowa (Personal Files)

ŻIH library holdings include:

  • a special collection of manuscripts (1130) and oldprints (1400) with Hebrew or Arameic commentaries to the Bible and Talmud, Kabbalistic tractates, Rabbinical treatises;
  • a multilingual collection of periodicals (over 2000 titles), dominated by Yiddish newspapers and journals published in interwar Poland;
  • books in Hebrew and Yiddish (about 30,000), including 200 memorial books (Yizkor books);
  • 20th and 21st century publications on Jews and Israel in all European languages
